CBSE Re-Evaluation Portal Now Live: A Step Towards Transparency and Accountability

Introduction to CBSE Re-Evaluation Portal
The **Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)** has finally launched its re-evaluation portal, following a series of delays and criticisms. The portal, which was initially scheduled to open on May 29, is now live and accessible to students.
According to a post on **X**, the CBSE shared a video explaining the step-by-step procedure for applying for verification and re-evaluation. The portal can be accessed here.
Delays and Criticisms
The launch of the portal was delayed due to severe criticism over the board's **On-Screen Marking (OSM) system** used for evaluating the **Class 12 examinations** this year. The system faced several issues, including broken pages, faulty payment gateways, and blurred or incomplete digital scripts.
To address these issues, the **Ministry of Education** brought in top engineering experts from **IIT Kanpur** and **IIT Madras** to audit vulnerabilities and fortify the infrastructure.
Re-Evaluation Process
Only students who have already applied for and received their scanned digital answer books can apply for re-evaluation. The **CBSE** has stated that when applying for re-evaluation, the student must specify exact question numbers and explain online how an answer matches the official marking scheme but was incorrectly evaluated.
Over **4 lakh students** have applied to check their answer sheets this year, with a massive volume of complaints from students who received lower-than-expected scores in **Physics** and **Mathematics**.
Refund of Re-Evaluation Fees
Following intervention by **Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan**, the **CBSE** has promised that all re-evaluation fees will be fully refunded if a student's marks increase after the review.
This move is seen as a step towards transparency and accountability, and is expected to provide relief to students who have been affected by the issues with the OSM system.
