Noida Police File Zero FIR Against Teenager Over Alleged Derogatory Remarks Against PM Modi at CJP Protest
NOIDA / NEW DELHI: A political controversy has erupted following police action against a Class 10 student who participated in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led anti-paper leak demonstration at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Noida Police registered a Zero FIR against the teenager following a public complaint alleging that she made abusive and derogatory remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the agitation.
The legal action, initiated under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions covering intentional insult, public mischief, and defamation, was subsequently transferred to the Delhi Police Special Cell for further investigation due to jurisdictional overlap.
Following widespread circulation of the protest clip on social media, the student released a public apology video stating that she was influenced by crowds at the venue and expressed deep regret for her utterances. She clarified that it was her first such mistake and asked for the nation's forgiveness.
Addressing the issue in a public message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated for a conciliatory approach toward protesting students, stating that young individuals who were led astray should be guided rather than subjected to continuous legal harassment or court proceedings. Despite the Prime Minister's public call to forgo punitive measures, ongoing police visits and media scrutiny have reportedly compelled the student's family to temporarily relocate from their Noida residence.
The incident has drawn sharp reactions from across the political spectrum. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bidhuri dismissed the protests, alleging that elements within the demonstration were attempting to derail public decorum. Similarly, RSS leader Atul Limaye characterized aspects of the agitation as a orchestrated project aimed at undermining constitutional authorities.
Conversely, legal experts and civil society advocates have voiced concern over the legal pressure placed on a minor. Advocate Ratna Singh praised the young student's courage in standing up for educational transparency and student rights during the NEET controversy, while simultaneously advising youth advocates to exercise caution and maintain restraint while participating in public demonstrations.
