Five Devotees Killed as Speeding Car Runs Over Roadside Kirtan Gathering in Bihar's Supaul


A high-speed traffic accident resulted in five deaths in Bihar's Supaul district on August 25, 2026, when an out-of-control vehicle ploughed into a group of devotees engaged in roadside religious singing (kirtan) along National Highway 327E. The incident occurred late Tuesday night near Kataiya Chowk, falling under the jurisdiction of the Pipra police station, where locals had gathered near a Bajrangbali temple for traditional celebrations.
According to preliminary police reports, the vehicle was traveling at high speed from the direction of Pipra when the driver lost control, driving directly into the roadside gathering.

Three other victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Sadar Hospital, where two subsequently succumbed to their injuries during treatment, bringing the total fatal toll to five. One severely injured survivor, identified as Krishna Shah, was subsequently referred to a specialized medical center for advanced care.
Following the collision, the vehicle continued roughly 50 meters off the road, crashing into a commercial establishment before being abandoned by the driver, who fled the scene on foot. In response to the crash, enraged local residents staged a block on NH-327E, impeding traffic movement to demand immediate police action, compensation for the deceased's families, and the arrest of the absconding driver.
Senior district administration and police personnel, led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate officers, arrived at the location to calm the protesters, clear the road blockages, and impound the vehicle involved. Local political representatives, including Supaul MLA Ramvilas Kamat, stated that local authorities are conducting an investigation to identify the driver, determine ownership of the impounded vehicle, and ascertain whether driver impairment or mechanical failure contributed to the incident.
