Indrakeeladri Temple Cancels Paid Ticket Queues, Announces Free Darshan for All Common Devotees During Dasara

In a major decision aimed at prioritizing common devotees during the upcoming Dasara Navaratri festival, the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam Trust Board and temple administration atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada have decided to make all darshan queues completely free. The decision abolishes the traditional paid ticket lines of ₹100, ₹300, and ₹500 for general devotees during the festival rush, allowing pilgrims to queue for deity darshan without mandatory ticket purchases.

Under the revised protocol, paid tickets will be strictly restricted to VVIPs and VIPs seeking special or Antaralaya access, while the general public will have free access across all standard queue lines. To monitor crowds and capture live feedback from visiting pilgrims, the temple administration is deploying an Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) to conduct daily telephone surveys. Additionally, free transport facilities will operate from the TTD site near Kummaripalem to Indrakeeladri for pilgrims, while two-wheeler access on Ghat Road will remain suspended during peak festival days to prevent traffic congestion.

Key arrangements for the Indrakeeladri Dasara festivities include:

  • Universal Free Darshan: Cancellation of general ₹100, ₹300, and ₹500 ticket lines to ensure free access across all queue channels for regular pilgrims.
  • Restricted Paid Access: Special and Antaralaya tickets reserved exclusively for high-priority VIP/VVIP protocol visits.
  • Real-Time IVRS Feedback: Daily automated phone surveys deployed to collect live pilgrim feedback and resolve operational bottlenecks instantly.
  • Free Pilgrim Transit: Dedicated shuttle transport provided from Kummaripalem TTD premises to Indrakeeladri, along with vehicular restrictions on Ghat Road.

Key Implications

The decision by the Indrakeeladri temple management to eliminate paid queue tickets for common pilgrims sets a key precedent for equitable crowd management during high-density religious festivals. By removing price tiers during peak festival days, the administration minimizes administrative delays at ticket counters and reduces illicit ticket recycling or unauthorized surge-pricing practices.

Furthermore, integrating IVRS feedback channels alongside free local transport demonstrates an adaptive approach to public administration at major pilgrimage sites. Maintaining rigorous safety standards, clear queue monitoring, and robust security protocols will remain crucial to ensuring a smooth, safe experience for the lakhs of devotees visiting Vijayawada during the festival.
